Pen Box

I treated myself to a box full of interesting pens…okay…so the box of pens came from Rite-Aid and of course were made in China…but still…they looked cool…oh there were the commoners…the ball point…the roller-ball…also a mini pen and a pen that switched colors with the flick of a tiny button…but above all…hovering in glory…the fountain pen…okay so the whole kit and caboodle cost less than $20…but it had been something I’d seen advertised on TV and had searched for in vain a year ago…so upon seeing it…I instantly snatched it up and purchased it…okay then…I wrapped it up and gave it to myself at Christmas…cough…cough…of course my family rolled their collective eyeballs as I opened the gift from Santa to addressed to me…don’t worry…I didn’t even begin to feign surprise…I just happily put it aside awaiting the chance to experiment with the assortment but in particular with the fountain pen...okay…it used cartridges not bottled ink…but it more than satisfied my need to write with a real pen…not a gel…felt-tip…roller-ball…or ball point…but a pen that has a nib through which actual ink flows onto the page…and fill many pages I did…happily I might add…until the dreaded day when it broke…when the plastic collar into which the top screwed into the bottom cracked as I put in a new cartridge…I was devastated…now I would be forced back to using a common writing implement…of jotting without the specialness of my fountain pen…my writing ambiance diminished…taken down a notch by cheap materials…but…hope loomed in the box with the other unused pens…I had yet to send in my guarantee…I stood a chance for a new pen…I carefully filled out the form…made a copy and put it along with my broken pen and a note into a padded envelope and sent the whole shebang off to San Francisco…and therein started a waiting game…
